Blog For Gore Day: Thurs Sept 13
Mon Sep 10, 2007 at 09:03:28 PM PDT
Thursday, September 13th is Blog for Gore Day. Here's the idea again...
My daily web adventures generally follow a lot of websites and feeds and newswires in sidebars and general news aggregation. One thing that's a little cumbersome about this is that the same story will pop up dozens of times with every blog that covers it. One story breaks. This blog blogs it and that blog blogs that blog and so on. It can get hairy.
That got me to thinking that this could work to our advantage. If the netroots selected a specific day in which everyone was to blog about Al Gore, we could drown the feed-o-sphere with news about Al Gore. This could take buzz to a whole new level.
The key to its success is that we would need to write more than "Gore is awesome" diaries. We would need to write about his Vietnam record, about his congressional record, about his history on several different issues, reviews of his books, you name it. The topics have to span the whole spectrum. In short, no matter what you're reading on the internet, you've probably read about Al Gore.
A lot of folks are gearing up to write articles for Blog for Gore Day. More below the fold...
The plan is simple and with enough folks buying in, it can be very effective:
Step 1: Let me know what you're writing about and on what website you're posting your blog.
Step 2: Tell your friends to join in on the fun.
Step 3: Research, write and edit.
Step 4: Post your blog on Thursday and do whatever you can to promote your story around the blogosphere.
Here are some ideas for topics:
Biography:
Al Gore’s youth
Al Gore’s Vietnam years
Al Gore’s House record
Al Gore’s Senate record
Al Gore as Vice President
Issues:
The Clinton-Gore economic record
Government Efficiency (remember this was Gore’s first charge in the Clinton admin)
On the Iraq War
On Bush’s War on Terror
On Health Care
On Education
On Labor issues
On Campaigns and Elections
On the Media
On Balance of Powers
On Social Issues
2008 Election:
Where is Al Gore’s 2000 team now?
Direct policy comparisons to the current frontrunners
Draft Gore organization updates
Established deadlines to enter primaries and caucuses
Let me know what you plan on writing about and I'll start posting a list in this diary. If previous diaries are an indication, we could have roughly 20 new blogs/posts/articles around the tubes. If you're passionate about Al Gore, make sure he has more than MONEY and MUSCLE. Get the MESSAGE out!
As we've all learned in the early years of netroots organization, buzz can turn into substance very quickly. A great example is the story that Al Gore would be endorsing another candidate. In a low-profile interview earlier in the week, Al Gore said that he would endorse another candidate (right after he said he hasn't ruled out a run). Not 5 days later, the Washington Post had a full analysis of Gore's endorsement potential.
Who knows what the real results of Blog for Gore Day will be. Will you also send your articles to your local newspapers? Will there will be follow up articles by other bloggers or by the mainstream press? We won't know until we get Al Gore's message out there!
One more idea for Blog for Gore Day: reacting to all this BS about Al Gore's double standards for flying a Lear jet to events. Man, the GOP is so terrified of Al Gore!
Blog for Gore on Thursday, September 13!

PS - Keep in mind that I am not advocating overwhelming Daily Kos with Al Gore diaries. The debate here on Daily Kos is rich because it is diverse. Try to post on your own blogs and on other websites.
PPS - Sorry this is a near replica of yesterday's diary. Just trying to get the word out!
